I Beg Your Pardon

I never promised you a rose garden.

That's what my ms would say to me if it could talk. Actually, to be honest, I think it'd call me every name under the sun.

If you haven't guessed it by now, I'm having ms love issues. It is like a rogue child, and funny that, since it has a working title called The Prodigal Daughter.

My poor CP's have heard me rant on like a mad woman possessed by nutty writers syndrome (NWS) for far too long and I'm sure they'd be just as glad to see the bugger sent off as I will. And I am trying, oh so desperately to find the love that I once had for my hero and heroine, for their story and for their HEA.

So I ask of you - how do you find the love when all seems dead and gone?

  2. Ah Rach, I shall share the love. Sharing is caring after all ;)

  3. I say a trial separation. Then you and your ms can both reflect on why you weren't getting along in the first place. Perhaps once you've been apart for a little while, you'll discover that old flame again. ;-)
    You'll get there, m'dear.

  4. Trial separation might just be the way to go Jackie. Will hack at it for the next few days then will try. Although I dare say that I'll be hit by separation anxiety then.

  5. Reckon Jackie's trial separation is good advice. I'm having one with my mss at the moment too!

  8. Janette, in my experience, with revisions especially, you lose some of the passion you had with draft one. Then it was all new and exciting...now it's...well, you're having to really DIG. But it's actually normal. :-) I struggle with that since I'm on what's essentially my 3rd rewrite of the sheikh. I'm not writing with that intense emotion of a first draft...I'm really having to...well, craft the story and add in more objectivity.

So, all that to say, it's normal...and when an ed tells you how good it is? Well, let me tell you, the passion is back really quick!

  9. Maisey - the MS currently in question was a first draft, but I've had several incarnations of the first half that it feels like a second or third draft. Have left that one to stew a bit and am finishing up a second draft of another ms, now this one I have re written about 85% findind that once I started rewriting, literally nothing from the original could be used. Am I feeling the love for this one? Well its coming back - esp since I've just hit them with a BM and heading into HEA.
